Ajinkya Rahane is an elegant top-order batsman and a product of the structured cricketing system that has existed in Mumbai for a long time. Having represented Mumbai at all age levels, he has come through the ranks under the tutelage of all the greats from the splendid city. Rahane averages 63 from his 36 first-class appearances and is fast becoming a run-scoring machine. In his second Ranji Trophy season, Dhawan scored 1089 runs to help Mumbai clinch its 38th title. He followed the Ranji season with an impressive 172 against an England Lions attack comprising top-class bowlers like Monty Panesar and Liam Plunkett. Recently, he registered his career-best, an unbeaten knock of 265 against Hyderabad in a Ranji Trophy fixture. He rated the knock as the finest of his career. In the IPL thus far, Ajinkya has struck two brisk fifties in ten games. The other major highlight of his young career was during his tour of New Zealand as part of the U-19 team. He scored 358 runs at an average of 71.6 in Tests and 144 runs in the ODIs at an average of 48.
