Kieron Adrian Pollard

Born: 12th May 1987, Cacariqua, Trinidad
Batting: Right-hand batsman
Bowling: Right-arm medium pace
A strong all-round cricketer from Trinidad and Tobago, Kieron Pollard first came into the limelight courtesy the Stanford 20/20 competition in the Caribbean. He was called to the West Indies squad for the 2007 World Cup, but it was last year's Champions League Twenty20 that resulted in four IPL franchises, including Mumbai Indians going gung ho over the prospect of securing Pollard during the IPL Players' Auction earlier this year. He was eventually snapped by the Mumbai Indians.
Pollard made his senior debut for Trinidad and Tobago in the Stanford Twenty20 against the Cayman Islands in July 2006. He finished the tournament with a respectable return of six wickets, but it was his performance in the semi-final that captured the imagination of cricket fans in the Caribbean. He smashed 83 runs off just 38 balls to steer T & T to the final and was instantly a household name.
His 18-ball knock of 54 during the CLT20 last year is widely regarded as the best Twenty20 innings in recent years. Such was the impact of the knock that the opposition, New South Wales approached Pollard immediately after the match, eager to rope in the player for the KFC Twenty20 Big Bash.
Having signed lucrative contracts with South Australia and Somerset, Pollard's entry into the Mumbai Indians squad reiterates the sport's professional spin, besides the avenues available to a youngster. He has inspired a whole generation of youngsters in the Caribbean who wish to excel in the T20 arena.
Pollard comes into this year's IPL on the back of consistent performances during West Indies' tour of Australia. It is his physical power and hand-eye coordination that allow him to belt five-and-half-ounces of leather further, and more regularly, than most contemporary batsmen.
At 22, he is widely being hailed as the most sought after cricketer today. Pollard shared in Trinidad and Tobago's US$1.5 million prize money and earned US$1 million as one of Stanford's Superstars that beat England in the contentious 20/20 for $20 million match in 2008.
Mumbai Indians' fans will hope to witness some of Pollard's pyrotechnics in IPL season 3.
