Graham Richard Napier

Full Name: Graham Richard Napier

Born: 6th January 1980, Colchester, Essex, England

Batting: Right-hand batsman

Bowling: Right-arm medium pace
Graham Napier is an all-rounder from Essex who takes to the Twenty20 format of the sport like a fish takes to water. He made his debut for Essex in 1997, and was a part of England's Under-19 World Cup winning squad in 1998. However, he came into prominence when he was drafted into the pool of 30 players for the 2004 Champions Trophy in England.

Napier is a nifty seam bowler capable of clocking speeds in excess of 85 MPH, and a hard-hitting batsman who is mostly used as a floater by the Essex Eagles in the domestic Twenty20 tournament.

Injuries and poor form had left Napier contemplating a career change in 2008, until his moment of glory came in the 2008 Twenty20 Cup when he smashed 158 off just 52 balls against Sussex, with 16 huge sixes, a world record in Twenty20 cricket. His whirlwind performance also broke the record for most sixes in a domestic one-day innings, and tied the record for most sixes in any domestic innings, held by Andrew Symonds, during a County Championship game in 1995. Napier admitted in an interview with Times Online that the knock against Sussex changed his life for the better.

Recently, Napier surpassed Pakistan bowler Yasir Arafat as the most successful Twenty20 bowler of all time. The Essex and Mumbai Indians star achieved the feat during the HRV Cup in New Zealand.

The 30-year old was rewarded for his consistent performances with a berth in England's 15-man squad for the ICC World Twenty20 2009, on the same day he made his debut for the Mumbai Indians.
