Born: 1st January 1990, Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh, India
Batting: Left-hand batsman
Bowling: Left-arm medium pace
A shrewd left-arm spinner with a good head on his shoulders, Ali Murtaza was easily the most successful spinner in the two seasons of the unrecognized Indian Cricket League (ICL).
Murtaza has been coached by former India cricketers Venkatesh Prasad and Chandrakant Pandit at the National Cricket Academy. Turning out for the Delhi Giants and the ICL India XI, he took 49 wickets in his 35 T20 matches at an impressive economy rate of under six runs per over.
The 20-year old is a student of the prestigious Lucknow sports hostel where he was inducted at the age of 11. He turned out for Uttar Pradesh in a solitary first-class match and a couple of List-A games before he joined ICL.
He made a name for himself in the ICL, bowling fast yorker length deliveries. He picked up a bagful of wickets with that delivery and helped Delhi Giants win many a game. Murtaza is also a useful lower-order batsman, capable of some big-hitting. Murtaza will hope to sharpen his skills playing alongside a champion bowler in Harbhajan Singh.
